Inspiration for the original painting, Chick Peace, came from my son’s elementary school, Meadow Pond, in South Salem, New York. As in many elementary schools across the nation, children at Meadow Pond are witness to the amazing birth of baby chicks, incubated in their very own classrooms. They are able to see, first hand, just how delicate life is, as they patiently wait and watch for many days until the eggs finally begin to crack and new life begins. As a parent, it is a sight to behold how gingerly each child embraces the baby chicks in the palms of their tiny hands. It is as if they already know something we as adults often take for-granted; life is precious.
Symbolic of life, in particular our youth, the young chick, made up of peace signs, thinks, feels and visualizes peace. The bright yellow color of the chick represents happiness, harmony and hope. Orange, the warm color of the chick’s beak, depicts strength, endurance and success. Green, the color of the pin the chick proudly dons, symbolizes growth, harmony, and hope. Altogether, Chick Peace is a statement of hope that peace will prevail.
